Oakville Transit expands service on key routes effective June 29, 2025

Monday, June 09, 2025

Oakville Transit customers will soon enjoy more frequent service on several key routes, making travel faster and more convenient. Beginning June 29, Routes 1, 5, 6 and 190 will see increased service, reducing wait times and improving reliability for customers across the town. In addition to routing changes on Route 5, and with service enhancements to these routes, Route 24 will be discontinued.

These service changes come as part of the implementation of initiatives outlined in Oakville Transit’s Five-Year Business Plan, approved by Council in October 2024. The plan provides a roadmap to guide transit service planning from 2025 to 2029, supporting Council’s vision for a vibrant and livable community for all. As recommended in the plan, the upcoming service changes are the first step in setting the foundation for the future Frequent Transit Network (FTN) along higher order transit corridors, such as Dundas Street and Trafalgar Road, having more frequent service at 15 minutes. The future FTN will increase service frequency to support growth and changing needs of the community, while increasing ridership.

Five-Year Plan service changes effective June 29 include:

Route 1

Route 1 - Trafalgar will change to provide all day, increased service frequency north/south every 15 minutes during rush hour and every 20 minutes outside of rush hour on Trafalgar Road, between Oakville GO and the 407/Trafalgar Park and Ride via Sheridan College and the Uptown Core, seven days a week. Transfers to Route 5 - Dundas have been scheduled for any customers wishing to continue their trip along Dundas St.

  • Route 1 - Trafalgar will have increased frequency between the 407/Trafalgar Park & Ride thereby increasing connections to the GO Transit regional transit system.
  • Will allow for more reliable service travelling along Trafalgar.

Route 5

Route 5 - Dundas will change to provide all day, increased service frequency from east to west along Dundas Street only, providing high frequency service every 15 minutes during rush hour and every 20 minutes outside of rush hour for this main corridor and to key transfer locations. Service will be provided to the east on Laird Drive between Ridgeway Drive and Winston Churchill Boulevard for connections to MiWay, and west to Walker’s Line and 407 Carpool lot for connections to Burlington Transit and GO transit bus routes.

Additional notes:

  • Direct connections to the commercial centre at Winston Churchill Boulevard and Dundas Street West.
  • Connections with multiple MiWay local and express services.
  • Route 5 will no longer be servicing Trafalgar Road or the White Oaks Boulevard area. White Oaks Boulevard area will now be serviced by the 190 - River Oaks Express during rush hour.
  • Scheduled transfers to Route 1 - Trafalgar at Uptown Core terminal for customers wishing to travel along Trafalgar Road.
  • Customers on White Oaks Boulevard who are unable to access nearby Route 1 - Trafalgar stops outside of Route 190 - River Oaks Express operating times, may apply for the Oakville Transit Care-A-van service.

Route 6

Route 6 - Upper Middle route and service changes will increase efficiency and further support Oakville as it grows and better serve those already using the service. The Route 6 - Upper Middle connects at the same Laird Road and Ridgeway Drive connection point as the Route 5 - Dundas, Route 12 - Winston Park, and Route 120 - East Industrial.

Additional notes:

  • Increased frequency of every 25 minutes during rush hour and 35 minutes outside of rush hour.
  • Route 6 - Upper Middle will no longer loop around Bristol Circle and will now run along Winston Park Drive connecting with Upper Middle Road East and further on to Bronte GO Station via Sheridan College, thus providing a one seat trip to Sheridan College.
  • Route 6 - Upper Middle will travel further east on Laird Road to Winston Churchill and Dundas Street West, making connections with multiple local and express MiWay routes.
  • Route 12 - Winston Park will maintain service around Bristol Circle and will connect with the Route 5 - Dundas, 6 - Upper Middle, and Route 120 - East Industrial at Laird and Ridgeway

Route 24

Route 24 - South Common, providing bus service between Oakville GO and South Common Mall in Mississauga will be discontinued to avoid duplication of transit services and enhance transit offerings within the Town. Customers will be able to travel between the Town of Oakville and City of Mississauga with various connecting routes such as Routes 1 - Trafalgar, 5 - Dundas, 6 - Upper Middle, 120 - East Industrial, and 12 - Winston Park.

MiWay routes 1, 36, 45, and 101-101A all offer local and express services within the city of Mississauga which connect with Oakville Transit Routes 5, 6, 12, and 120 on Laird Road between Ridgeway Drive and Winston Churchill Boulevard.

Route 190

Route 190 - River Oaks Express will additionally provide service to White Oaks Boulevard, rush hour only, in place of Route 5 and travel to the Oakville GO to connect with other Oakville Transit routes. While this does increase the total route run time by approximately 5 minutes, the schedule has been adjusted to ensure connections to GO Train routes at the Oakville GO train station. Additional stops have been added to the afternoon service route at White Oaks & Eton and White Oaks & Litchfield.
