 Oakville Transit provides transportation options for riders with special needs through low floor buses and care-A-van service. Low floor buses are fully accessible to passengers who use wheelchairs, scooters, walkers or strollers. Oakville Transit is committed to increasing the number of low floor buses available on our routes, and will have a 100% fully low floor fleet by 2012.
At this time, Oakville Transit is happy to provide low floor buses on all routes on Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays.
2009 Accessibility Plan
Oakville Transit's Accessibility Plan for 2009 is intended to form a part of the Town of Oakville's Accessibility Plan.
The plan is the outcome of consultations with people with disabilities and local agencies with an interest in transportation for people with disabilities, as well as with the four transit systems with which Oakville Transit passengers make connections: Burlington Transit, GO Transit, Mississauga Transit and TransHelp.
The consultations included surveys, interviews, a public forum and written requests for input. The goal of the consultations was to get help in identifying barriers that arise as people with disabilities use or attempt to use Oakville's conventional transit, Seniors Specials or care-A-van services.
Oakville Transit expresses its appreciation to the many people who contributed their views and experiences to help develop this plan, and to the Ontario Community Transportation Association, and the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship for the guidance and resources they provided.
